Today was the day of Joe's big bad vet appointment. The day he got put under and got a scope put up his nose to look for cancer and other foreign bodies. The day we found out if he would live through the summer or not. Leaving for the vet was very hard - he was so excited to be going for a ride, but I knew he shouldn't be. He rides so well in the car and just loves his car rides. Although, it was almost like he knew something was up because about 3/4 of the way there, he started standing up and getting all upset, which is not like him. When we got to the vet and I let him out of the car, I discovered the back seat was full of blood (pictured) NOT a good sign - he'd went two days without bleeding and apparently it was back with a vengeance - my window was smeared with blood, it was all over the door and several big spots on the blanket. As if I wasn't worried enough already....

Anyway, to make a very long story short, waiting to hear from the vet was one of the longest four hours of my life. In the end, the news was good. My sweet boy does NOT have cancer and some good drugs should fix him right up. His bleeding should stop in 72 hours and the crime scene in my car has been mostly cleaned up.

YAY for cancer free Joe!!!!!!!

Today, I spent a few hours looking through my photos and trying to pick just a few of them. The deadlines for the two big greyhound photo contest are coming up quick and for one contest, you can only enter one picture and for the other contest (for the world's most popular greyhound calendar/magazine), you can enter about 7-9 pictures. It was definitely a trip down memory lane! I ended up selecting 50 pictures that I wanted developed and then when I realized I was being totally crazy, I narrowed it down to "only" 39. Part of me felt like I was selecting photos to use for a Joe memorial, which totally sucked. But, most of me was just picking fun pictures to give to my parents, put in my photo album, and looking for an excuse to use up the last of the free photo credits on my account, which expire in just a few days.

Today I spent all the time I could with my sweet boy. Thankfully, the weather was great. I took him for a walk, cuddled with him on the bed, played with him in the yard, and took lots and lots of pictures. Every time he turned around, I was popping another treat into his mouth. I love this houndie so much and I just can't bear the thought of him having a tumor in his sweet little needle nose. Of losing him way too soon....

This is what's left of the Christmas cards. I once had well over 100 on the wall, now I only have pictures that people sent me of their hounds up there. Taking them down in groups (I took down all the religious ones in January and all the real Christmasy store bought ones in February) has made taking them down a little easier. I put probably 50 hours into putting together the card exchange and receiving the cards was by far the highlight of my holiday.

Tonight, I found a bunch of blood on Joe's dog bed. After thoroughly searching both of the dogs, we discovered it was coming from his nose. He didn't seem to STILL be bleeding, but this cannot be good. Everything I know about dogs says that 90% of the time that dogs bleed from their nose, it's either from a cut, tick borne diseases, or a tumor in the nose. We can't find a cut, so I'll be taking him to the vet right away in the morning to see what is going on. In the meantime, sleeping pills it is....

Today I drove all the way to EC, mostly to buy more chocolate chips (of the Andes Candies variety) to make more delicious cookies. I also couldn't resist picking up hilarious headbands for the dogs out of the dollar bin. The trip was not a total waste, as I also managed to buy $80 worth of pet supplies at the pet food store, which means the critters will have chow and treats for another month!

Today was S's first day back to work after her honeymoon. Much to my delight, she brought my puppies treats back from my trip! I thought it was super sweet that she thought of my buddies and they were super duper excited about the treats. They went over just as well as greyhound crack (aka Burpdog Biscuits) and I thought I was going to have to fight them off of me. Definitely the highlight of the day.

In my quest to do things that make me happy, I decided to finally buy myself a window cling Garfield the second I saw one. I've never actually seen one that I felt looked very authentic, so when I saw this guy and he made me squee inside, I swept him off the shelf without even bothering to look at the price tag.

Most places closed yesterday at noon. Not where I work! I am so sick of snow. So sick of bad roads. I miss snow days. Days where you weren't expected to risk your life to come sit on your ass and do nothing. Hell, snow even makes me miss my beater - I wouldn't feel wretched about putting THAT car in the ditch. I am very sick of snow.

We are a pretty tight knit group at work. The best thing about my job is the girls I work with. With the exception of my boss. She seriously needs to get on some meds or something, because she has mood swings like MAD and goes from joking around about sex one minute to bitching someone out about something totally irrational the next. I've been the whipping girl a lot lately it seems and I'm really getting sick of it.....

I the spirit of a real day off, I actually did stuff today. Ate at Noodles & Company, bought a new watch, bought these fancy bottles of alcohol (entirely because I thought they were totally purdy) stocked up on dog supplies, watched a movie, all sorts of stuff. All my days off should be this productive!!

Today I had a nice surprise. I went to work, dreading my near 12 hour day and it turns out that I'd looked at the wrong week and I had a 4.5 hour break in the middle of my work day. I decided that since I had some unplanned time off, I should do something useful with my time. So I did - I made two batches of cookies. One with andies candies chips (said cookies are to die for!!) and one with chocolate raspberry swirl chips (Which turned out pretty nasty) Either way, I no longer felt that my random afternoon off was wasted!
