Movie Time - September 6

Movie Time - September 6

I curled up in front of the TV tonight with this movie. It was strange. Very strange. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't something I'd go out of my way to recommend. Oh well, that's the good thing about Netflix, you don't get that "Oh crap, I just wasted $4" when you get a movie you don't necessarily love.

Got the Oil Change Blues - September 4

So before I got my "new" car, I never had paid for an oil change in my life. My dad always did it for me and enjoyed doing it (to the point where I'd find him at my house changing my oil uninvited LOL) but with my new car, I've taken it to the same place it's previous owners always took it. At first because that's what it seemed like I should do and then because I ended up loving the oil change appointments. Because the place is awesome - they come and get my car at work, take it, clean the windows inside and out (snout smears and all), vacuum the whole thing, empty my garbage, and change my oil and fluids for like $26 before tax. And then deliver it back to me, so I get out of work and I have a fresh clean car waiting for me. I could handle paying $27 for a complete oil and fluid change and the time saved having it done while I was at work, combined with the time saved by not having to be the one who un-dogged the windows and seats in my car.

But today, when they dropped the bill off, it was $36. I asked why and the guy seemed very confused. He (this was the owner, mind you) tried to tell me this was always the price. Umm, no, I've been taking it there every 3k for the past year and a half and I've never paid over $30. I would have been totally fine if he was like "Well, prices went up because of x and y" but no, he acted like I was a total moron that didn't know what she was talking about.

Went home and checked my previous bills and I was right....

So now I'm torn because I don't think I can justify $36 for an oil change and vacuum, especially after that conversation left a bad taste in my mouth. Oh well, I just like to be pissed about random stuff every now and then.

So my incredibly eccentric foreign coworker brought me this bag today and shoved it at me with no explanation except "Take it. For you" and walked away. The bag had a souvenir t-shirt and dozens and dozens of pairs of old used earrings. Seriously. There was at least 35 pairs. Many of them were still on their original packaging backs with clearance price stickers on them. None of them looked remotely new. And best of all? I have NO CLUE why she would have given me such a thing.

Remember when Joe was sick back in March? Well, he's still sick. The bleeding came back in July and has persisted on and off through August. Today, we're traveling to Minnesota to find out what the greyhound specialist thinks. What our next steps are. Where we go from here. Joe just looked so pitiful this morning, although he may have not looked any different at all and I was just looking at him through pitiful eyes. Because I'm so very worried about my special hound....

Turkey Necks! - August 29

Turkey Necks! - August 29

I am way too proud of these turkey necks. We feed turkey necks to Daisy and they help with her horrible teeth. Previously, we had been buying them for $3.89 each at the pet store and feeding her about 2 a month, even though 2 a week would be much better. WELL, living in the neighobring town to the world's biggest turkey plant, I finally got a chance to visit their "deli" And scored the turkey neck special - two cases (8 necks in a case) for $7. That means $64 worth of turkey necks for 7 bucks. I am way too thrilled about this. Hey, a penny saved is a penny earned (or thrown on debt LOL)

Damnit Netflix - August 24

Okay, this is so not Netflix's fault, it's mine. Back in May, to hurry me along on my debt paying goals, I put Netflix on a 90 day hiatus (longest that they allow) so I could use that money towards debt. I didn't just cancel it because if I just put it on hiatus, it kept my profile and my movie list and all that stuff and I figured in 89 days, I would just put it on hold for another 90 days. Well, apparently I should have paid better attention to that because I got a Netflix in the mail today and a charge on my account for another month of service. My first thought was to cancel immediately, but since they've already charged me, I might as well see how many movies I can watch in a month and make that $13 worth it's while. Doh.

I bitched eons about how my fast working $15 inhalers had been discontinued and replaced with not as good inhalers that cost me $35. Well, I found something online a few weeks ago and signed up for their "Asthma Newsletter" and got this in the mail today for signing up - a discount card for a FREE inhaler and another for two $15 off discounts, good at any pharmacy. So basically, I scored $65 for signing up for the mailing list. Woo!
